Woo Hoo for good news!

First off: my wife is awesome.  This morning she fixed the orange danishes that I really like!  I love her!

Good news last week: Kim got off work so we can go to GWP’s church camp! I am ecstatic from hearing this because camp is always the highlight of my year (unless I get married). I have so many good memories of camp going way back to the fifth grade. It feels comforting to have something that is very constant in your life… thats what camp is to me. It doesn’t matter what stage of life I’m in or how good or bad a year is going because camp will still be there.

Sometimes I worry that I’m too selfish about my camp experience because I think I would still spend a week at camp even if there were no campers! However, I realize how important it is for young people to be around older christians in non-church settings. To me the greatest part of camp are those times when you’re just sitting around with the campers and they ask you those questions about “grown-up” life. (as if I’m grown-up) I find lots of enjoyment in satisfying young people’s curiosity in what’s next in life. I can remember many instances of when I was that young 5th grader who listened to every word that my older college-aged counselor said. And being the young and innocent (ie. gullable) child I was, I would believe anything he said. Even if it was about a fellow counselor’s brother who went insane and killed a lot of kids at a church camp.

  1. I love your new site (awesome banner pic), and I’m so glad you and your wife (hee! hee! I smile saying it) are coming to camp — just as long as you promise not to be not the type of counselor who freaks out campers with murder stories, leaving the real adults to deal with the aftermath. 🙂

  2. I think camp does that for a lot of people. There are a lot of things that you don’t know about, and being able to go back to an anchor point – a place that is a constant – is comforting. Plus the fact that getting 150 people together to focus on God is the recipe for a great week.
